Moving the Needle: Principal Visit Next Week

Next week we're excited to welcome the Principals of Chandler Park Academy into our classrooms to see Common Core instruction in action — schoolwide adoption paired with the media-based methods our Director has developed specifically for the middle school.

As promised, we are on track and advancing! A special shout-out to Ms. Wells for her support today — parents, please encourage Ms. Wells to join the team full-time. I can assure you the results will skyrocket proficiency.

When children memorize their multiplication facts, they quickly start seeing the connection between the numbers and the algorithms I teach next, and the growth abounds from there. Our students are already past manipulatives — today I watched most of them write out the area function themselves before ever plugging in numbers.

Your kids have shown me they can memorize and apply real functions. Help us lock in those multiplication facts, and watch us achieve historic growth for our students!

Dear CPA Families, welcome back! We want to thank you again for bringing your bright, vibrant, and awesome children to thrive with us at CPA. We are off to an amazing start, and we thank you for doing your part by showing up every day with the best kids in the city.

In an effort to do our part, we will be temporarily moving to a Red Light behavior protocol. Under this protocol, students who are disrupting class, or who are not engaging when high-level, standardized instruction is taking place, cannot remain in the classroom -- they will be sent to the Support Room for remediation, primarily focused on double-digit multiplication. Research by Dr. Robert Marzano confirms that high-level instructional strategies produce the strongest gains in student achievement, which is exactly why we protect that instructional time so closely. Please let your child know that we are on their side. We know they need to have fun -- we like to have fun too! But as we've made clear, we have to focus at a higher level for the first three months of school, otherwise bad habits take hold and we don't build the outstanding record we're working toward.

While this may feel sudden, please understand it is only temporary. Once all students can multiply two-digit numbers effectively, they will be ready to enjoy themselves and participate fully rather than disrupt. Thank you for partnering with us. Warmly, The Director, CPA Math
